Autonomous republics (Чиджигука, abbreviated as AR) are administrative regions in Namor that enjoy relative autonomy from the Namorese central government. There are five autonomous republics in Namor - Khao, Minjian, Tuhao, Txotai and Xibensho. Inhabitants of the autonomous republics make up around 18% of the national population.
Article 25 of the Namorese constitution authorizes the government to establish autonomous republics in regions with a significant population of ethnic minorities. However, minorities do not need to constitute a majority of a region in order for it to become an autonomous republic, as Txotai - an autonomous republic where over half of the population is Kannei - shows.
Autonomous republics have significant jurisdiction over education, fiscal policy, infrastructure, language policy, law enforcement and other affairs, while defense and foreign affairs remain under the jurisdiction of the Central Government in Namo.
Each autonomous republic has its own regional constitution and laws, which are both subordinate to the national laws. The regional constitution is adopted by a regional constitutional convention. The adopted document is then reviewed and ratified by the Central Council. The Supreme People's Court is the final authority of constitutional interpretation and review, although it may not review the regional constitution unless requested to do so by the regional President.
