Elected Secretary-General

Antelope Shohai

The 27th Congress of the Liberationist Party of Namor was held from January 1 to January 4, NMR 2378 to elect members of the Central Committee of the Liberationist Party of Namor as well as the Secretary-General and presidential nominee.

Procedure

The 87-member Central Committee of the Liberationist Party is elected directly by party members. All registered, due-paying Liberationist party members are eligible to vote. The Central Committee then elects the Politburo and the Secretary-General of the party.

A valid candidate for Secretary-General must have been a full member of the Liberationist Party for more than 20 years, as well as a petition containing over 272,000 signatures from party members. However, a Secretary-General seeking reelection does not need a petition.

Secretary-General election

Two candidates ran for Secretary-General - incumbent Secretary-General Antelope Shohai, who sought reelection ahead of the Popular Front primary, and Su Rongyun, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee who said she wanted to win the secretaryship so that Antelope cannot be President-General and leader of the Liberationists at the same time, reducing public fears that a Liberationist administration is a reincarnation of its authoritarian past.

Of the 87 newly-elected members of the Central Committee of the Liberationist Party who were eligible to vote, 80 voted for Antelope Shohai and 7 voted for Su. Antelope thus easily won reelection as Secretary-General of the Party.

Presidential and Vice Presidential nominations

The Politburo unanimously nominated Antelope Shohai as presidential candidate for the Liberationists.

It had three choices for vice presidential nominee - Deputy Secretary-General Long Jiao-Che, former Txotai Head of State Vang Jun and Yang Shinke, Antelope Shohai's running mate in NMR 2373. After a period of consulation, the Politburo finally settled on Long.
