The 2021 Besmenian federal election in Besmenia took take place on August 8, 2021. It is the election of the 27th Federal Chamber. The election should originally take place after the regular course of the Federal Chamber legislative period in summer 2024. On April 30, 2021, Prime Minister Theodor Sidemann announced, after consultation with President Vincent von Schilling, to aim for new elections due to the Hille affair and the subsequent exit of the FBBP from the government cabinet.

Electoral system

427 members are elected to the Besmenian Federal Chamber for four years. The federal territory is divided into 13 state constituencies and these in turn into 158 regional constituencies. There is a preliminary investigation at every level.

Prime Minister candidate of the parties

BVP

The former Prime Minister Theodor Sidemann was originally supposed to stand as Prime Minister candidate for BVP. On May 13, 2021 (5 days after his resignation as Prime Minister), Sidemann surprisingly announced that he would not run in the 2021 election. On May 15, Elisabeth Rademacher (Governor of Maurenmark since March 2016) was nominated and confirmed as Prime Minister candidate of the Besmenian People's Party. Elisabeth Rademacher is the BVP's first female Prime Minister candidate.

FBBP

Moritz Bandenberg, who became the new party chairman of the FBBP after Frank Hille's resignation, was confirmed as Prime Minister candidate on May 12th.

PBL

Party leader Sandra Eckwach, who was re-elected as party leader at the PBL party conference on January 16, 2021, was confirmed as Prime Minister candidate of the PBL.
