List of political parties in Estmere
Template:Politics of EstmereThis article lists political parties in Estmere.
Estmere has a pluralist multi-party system, but three major parties - the Sotirian Democratic Union, the Reform Party and the Progressive Social Democrats - have dominated modern politics. At least one of the three parties and their predecessors have led every post-war Estmerish government.
Historically, Estmere had a two-party system due to the use of first past the post block voting until 1938. The two major parties were the Borough Party and the Viridians until 1846, the Constitutionalists and the Unionists from 1846 to 1938 and the Sotirian Democratic Union and the Socialist Party of Estmere from 1938 to 1981. The emergence of Reform in 1980 put an end to the two-party system, and the rise of the three party period.
Alongside the big three, there are a number of other parties in Estmere. The most important historically have been the Greens, the Left Party and Estmere First, while more recently the Centre Party, Vox Estmere and future.es have become important minor parties. Regionalist and nationalist parties such as the Party of the Swathish, Ensemblle and the Aldman Democratic Alliance are also prominent.
The Progressive Social Democrats are currently the largest party in Parliament, and lead the government. Estmerish governments are often multi-party, and coalitions are common. The Greens, Left Party, Vox Estmere and future.es currently support the PSD minority government, and are therefore seen as kingmakers.
