Isabella Maelia (Isabella Maelia Enyo Silvia; b. 2 September 1985) is a Latin politician and Senator for Rhaedestus, located in Castellum. Prior to her election to the Latin Senate in 2017, Maelia worked as a primary school teacher in Castellum and concurreently served as a Member of Castellum Assembly. She held a dual mandate as a Member of Castellum Assembly and a Senator, but did not run for re-election in 2017 local elections.
Early life and education
Maelia was born in Teíchos, informally known as the Greek quarter, in Castellum to unmarried parents Gustave de Bissy, a Lyncanestrian professor, and Theocharista Maelia. She was educated at Our Lady of Sorrows (Latin: Beata Maria Virgo Perdolens), part of the Castellum public school system. She later enrolled at the University of Aarhusium, requiring financial aid and student loans to complete her education, where she primary studied public policy, though also pursued a teaching degree. She graduated from Aarhusium in 2009 with degrees in teaching and public policy.
Political career
Castellum Assembly
Maelia was first elected to Castellum devolved Assembly in 2014, after joining the Progressive Party and being included on their party list as an additional member. Throughout her first term as an assembly member, Maelia also continued to work as a school teacher for the Castellum public school system. She continues to hold her seat on the city's assembly, though has stated that she will not seek to be included in the party lists for the upcoming special election in fall 2017.
Senate
Following the 2016 succession crisis, Maelia decided to stand for election to the Senate after Emperor Constantine XX dissolved the senate and called for new elections. Throughout the succession crisis, Maelia was said to have remained in Castellum and continued to hold her classes and teach though has claimed that "some days it was only five students and myself" in attendance. Though other residents of Castellum at this time suggest that schools were not entirely affected as Maelia claims as they were not impacted by the curfews imposed during Prince Michael's usurpation.
Maelia had originally been a member of the Progressives, though after the uncertainty in the Latin party system caused by the formation of United Latium, she left the Progressives and enlisted with Citizens – Popular Alternative after meeting with it's leader, Felix Procilius. Maelia faced no opposition during her seat's primary and was victorious for the seat of Rhaedestus in Castellum. She earned a plurality of votes with a majority of 5% over the runner-up United Latium candidates.
After being sworn-in on 21 April 2017, Maelia was made Spokesperson for the Home Department within Citizens – Popular Alternative by leader Procilius.
