It is the most highly decorated guards division in the Joyonghean Sovereign Army, with the Guard Infantry Regiment holding the most awards.

The Guards division was formed in 1885 on the orders of Jeongsi of Joyonghea to commemorate the Jurchens who fought during the Yutkinsk War. It has since participated in numerous conflicts such as the First Joyonghean-Quenminese War, the Jeongsa War, the Third Joyonghean-Quenminese War, the War of Lorican Aggression, and the Circum-Courlès War. Today, the division consists of one infantry regiment, one light infantry regiment, one mechanized infantry regiment, and three independent companies.
