The Guards division was formed in 1885 on the orders of Jeongsi of Joyonghea to commemorate the Jurchens who fought during the Yutkinsk War. It has since participated in numerous conflicts such as the First Joyonghean-Quenminese War, the Jeongsa War, the Third Joyonghean-Quenminese War, the War of Lorican Aggression, and the Circum-Courlès War.
