Rwizikuran Standard Time (RST), historically known as Riziland Standard Time, is the sole time zone of Rwizikuru, with Rwizikuru's time zone being an offset of UTC+3:45.
History
The time zone of Rwizikuru was originally calculated by being based on the location of Signal Hill Observatory in Port Fitzhubert, with Riziland Standard Time first being defined in 1866 as being "when the sun rises at its highest point over Signal Hill" (i.e. giving the colony an offset of UTC+03:39:51).
The adoption of the time zone was necessitated by the fact that the colony straddles both UTC+3:00 and UTC+4:00, while the desires of the Estmerish officials to have a singular time zone for the Colony of Riziland meant that it was more convenient to apply the time used in Port Fitzhubert to the rest of the colony.
However, well into the early 20th century, local time continued to be widely used outside of government offices, with Port Graham de-facto using what was colloquially known as local time as late as 1911, with an offset of UTC+03:28:25, while most, including government offices used UTC+3:40. Thus, in 1913, the colonial government simplified the official time zone in Riziland from UTC+03:39:51 to UTC+03:45:00, with the calculation made by advancing the clocks in Port Fitzhubert five minutes and nine seconds, to ensure that the time would "always be three hours and forty-five minutes ahead of Morwall." The colonial government also required that all public clocks use Riziland Standard Time, as opposed to local time.
During the Great War, temporary daylight saving time was introduced in 1928, with clocks advancing to UTC+04:45 year-round. Following the fall of Estmere in 1929, however, Riziland Standard Time was replaced with Eastern Bahian Time (UTC+4:00) in eastern parts of the colony, while western parts of the colony adopted Central Bahian Time (UTC+3:00).
After the end of the Great War and the liberation of Riziland, Estmere would apply Riziland Standard Time to the mandates of Kigomba and East Riziland, thus necessitating clocks in those regions to advance forward 45 minutes in TBD and advance backward 15 minutes in Sainte-Germaine.
This time zone would remain after independence, although in 1947, the time zone was renamed to Rwizikuran Standard Time to reflect the country's name being changed from Riziland to Rwizikuru. The area of the time zone would be reduced further after the conclusion of the Mabifian-Rwizikuran War and the Garamburan War of Independence in 1969, with Yekumavirira readopting Central Bahian Time and Garambura adopting Eastern Bahian Time.
In recent years, there has been considerable discussion of adopting Eastern Bahian Time, in order to improve trade with Garambura and Maucha, both of whom are members of COMDEV, but no government action has been taken.
Daylight saving time
Apart from a brief period during the Great War, Rwizikuru has never used daylight saving time, due to its location near the equator.
