The 2009 World Cup, also called the 2009 Providence World Cup, was an international football tournament contested by men's national teams which took place between 11 April to 18 April, 2009 in Providence, Zamastan. It was the 3rd World Cup held in Zamastan, the previous being in 1993 in Tofino and 1978 in Tregueux. The tournament phase involved 32 teams, of which all came through qualifying competitions at the start of the event from an original 64 national teams. At the time, it was one of the most watched sporting events in the history of the world.

31 national teams advanced through qualification competitions to join the host nation in the final tournament, with a total of 64 matches played in 4 venues located in Providence. In the final match, New Elkland defeated Besmenia 3–2.

64 competing countries were divided into eight groups of eight teams (groups A to H). Teams in each group played one another in a round-robin best two-out-of-three, with the top four teams advancing to the knockout stage with the Round of 32.
