QìnéngFragmentation

Fragment is a memmber of the Starchild Sorority.

Appearance

Fragment is an Asian woman in her twenties, with long, brown, wavy hair often seen in a ponytail and a lean and muscular figure. She is notably the most muscular member of her team. Her Mark of the Starchild is dark green and on the lower right part of her abdomen.

Her hero outfit consists of a black, waist-length coat, a black top that exposes her midriff and bears her logo, a green gecko, on the centre. It also includes a pair of black trousers with green lines along the side and black boots, as well as dark grey knee pads and black gloves.

Her casual outfit

Personality

Ironically, despite her name, she is a highly energetic, optimistic, and hot-blooded individual. She usually speaks respectfully enough to use honourifics, but enjoys taunting her opponents and considers it "part of the fun" in combat. Despite seemingly unprofessional, she actually focuses on the task at hand and does not lose composure, even under pressure. She has a strong sense of honour and frowns on tactics she sees as underhanded. She does not hold grudges against those who have defeated her fair and square, and would return favours to those who have helped her.

History

Background

She was one of the original members of the Starchild Sorority, along with Camilla, Camellia, and Nova. She, like Nova was initially forbidden to join the team as while their father was equally concerned with all of them, he thought that whatever they would find out about Michelle during their first mission would be overwhelming for women their age, and that it was not "their fight", as Michelle was not their biological mother. Yali expressed her strong disagreement, citing that all of her sisters' fight are her fights. Tianshi finally relented, realizing her physical and mental capabilities.

Powers and Abilities

Qìnéng

Green logo transparent.png Fragmentation

Fragmentation allows Yali to remove parts of her body painlessly at will and control detached parts of her body and levitate through the air at high speeds, regardless of whether or not they were voluntarily removed. She can then reattach these parts, making them fuction normally again without issue. This is highly convenient in close combat, as this allows Fragment to attack through any attempts the opponent makes at blocking or avoid attacks altogether. She is also able to live without being connected to parts of her body, albeit only for a duration of hours. This time limit will reset once the parts are reattached

She can regenerate lost parts of her body, although this consumes much more Qì than separating and reattaching them. She can use this ability to a lesser extent and grant herself a temporary healing factor with speeds she can adjust to how much Qì she is willing to spend.

Abilities

Physical fitness

Yali is a very strong woman capable of breaking stone with her fists. She is more durable than the average human and has trained her stamina to be above average levels as well.

Multilingualism

Yali has been shown to be capable of speaking English in Red String of Fate. Like her mother, she resorts to ranting in Cantonese whenever she can't stand something, proving her ability in the language.

Weaknesses

Yali has relavitvely small Qì reserves, limiting her in her use of regenerative capabilities.

Creation and Conception

The first idea for Fragment and Splice came to RMD during ESL class while learning about sentence fragments and splices, reminding him of Buggy the Clown from One Piece and a villain from the Teen Titans animated series. Initially, they were planned to be small-time American villains, with the former being the latter's mentor. Both were initially planned to be male and Splice was planned to be a bald black man in his late twenties to early thirties wearing a white shirt, a black tie, black trousers and a pair of black dress shoes. However, seeing as some previous concepts for Starchild Sorority members were deemed unfit to be in the final product, both men were recycled into their current forms months later.

At first, her physical capabilities were planned to be at the same level as an average human, but was buffed due to her Qìneng being deemed underwhelming for someone of her level.

Trivia

  • Fragment shares the same voice actress as Nami from One Piece.
  • Her logo is a reference to the similarities between her powers and the fragmentation abilities of a gecko.
