Hellonian language

Hellonian (Hellander) is a South Vismaric language that is spoken in the Hellona by about 54 million people as a first language—including most of the population of Hellona and by another 10 million as a second language.

Outside of the Vismar, it is the native language of the majority of the population of Eburon, and also holds official status in Norsund, the Menako Islands, the Ebure Isles, Lilotuka Island and the Hello-Sevros Islands, which are constituent countries of the Hellonian Realms. The Polynesian Hellonic dialects of Dutch Polynesia have evolved into Dutch Polynesian, a mutually intelligible daughter language, sometimes considered a dialect.

Hellonian is one of the closest relatives of both German and Nambalonian and is said to be roughly in between them. Hellonian, like Namblonian, has not undergone the German consonant shift, does not use Germanic umlaut as a grammatical marker, has largely abandoned the use of the subjunctive, and has levelled much of its morphology, including the case system. Features shared with German include the survival of three grammatical genders—albeit with few grammatical consequences, as well as the use of modal particles, final-obstruent devoicing, and a similar word order.

Orthography

The Standard Hellonian Runic Script is used as the script for both Hellonian and Ellashian. Most of these are old runes, while some have been replaced by newer more latin versions. Letters not used often in the native tongue are directly borrowed from the latin script, while c is either replaced by an s or k. The latin X is replaced by the G, as the latin X was too similar to the Template:Runic-rune.

This runic script is largely shared with Ellashian, though that system uses C.
