A further 38 are to be delivered by 2028. A development of the AV-30, the AV-33 boasts improved fire-control systems, thermal sights for both the gunner and commander, soft-kill IR-dazzlers and the ROOK hard-kill active-protection system on the turret, an automated fire-suppression system and a powerful turbocharged VM9 6-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which gives the AV-33 unparalleled mobility among MBTs with a power-to-weight ratio of 30hp/ton. Tandem-warhead Targeter ATGMs can be fired out the main gun of the tank, striking targets up to 5 kilometers away.

Russian T-80BV.jpg The AV-30 platform, developed in the 1980s, has been the backbone of the Juznavian tank forces for decades. Throughout the years, many programmes have been put in place to update ageing AV-30s. In 2010, 85 AV-30Xs were converted to the XM specification; specifically, Granite-6 ERA protection was added, thermal sights were installed for the commander and modern digital radios and satallite navigation equipment was installed. Simultaneously, 74 XMs were converted to the YM standard; replacing the diesel 6-cylinder with a gas turbine engine, soft-kill active-protection systems, improved night-vision and thermal capabilities and automatic transmission. In 2020, the Ministry of Defence stated that 15 AV-30YMs would be converted to AV-33As, citing delays at Juzdevod on deliveries of new tanks. They also announced plans to sell its remaining stock of AV-30Xs.

Ukrainian Army T-64BM during a training exercise.jpg Soravian T64 MBT, modified locally to the S specification in 1973. Hundreds of units were stockpiled following the adoption of the AV-30, with only one battalion operating AV-24Ss in 2010. Following the 2012 reorganization of the Juznavian Armoured Corps, 450 AV-24s were activated, with 200 units upgraded to TA2014 and later TA2018 standards. These improved versions of the AV-24 would serve to occupy the vacuum left in the armoured corps following the sale of large numbers of AV-30s, and the delays in deliveries of new AV-33s. The Ministry of Defence reported in 2019 that 88 new AV-24TA2018 tanks have been order from the Zadar Armour Plant, along with aims to convert 50% of the S standard tanks to at least TA2014. In 2021, Juzdevod reported that 52 orders had been fulfilled, with 10 tanks converted to the TA2018 model.
