Riamo, officially the Riamese Federation is a federal devolutionary monarchic republic, composed of a collection of federal subjects with varying levels of autonomy. Its capital city, Guri, which lies on the Leight River, is home to the country's key political, judicial, and financial institutions. The country is primarily situated in Antariax, with additional territories located in Olivacia and maritime exclaves like Freice. Riamo is bordered by Gavrilia and Taknia to the north, Fălcal to the east, and Nova Japanese Pacific States to the south, with an additional border with Seaview through the X Exclave. Riamo is also the only country to hold significant territory in both Antariax and Olivacia, spanning a total of 803,910 km² (310,390 sq mi). The large population of over 138 million people predominately live, however, in the coastal areas and southern less arid lands, where most of the largest cities are located, including Nashe, Portington, Sefa, Cockney and Glowshire, amongst others.

With a long colonial history dating centuries, Riamo was quick to become a very diverse country in both ethnical and economical terms, all of which would contribute to a generation of wealth and early industrialization. These differences have, however, generated social inequality, marginalization, poor wealth distribution and inequity of opportunities for centuries to slave-descent population. This has all continued to our days, where the aforementioned problems still present a challenge in daily life for millions of people, and while activists and political movements have managed to overcome some of them, it is widely accepted that racial injustice and social disgregation still are 2 of the biggest obstacles to overcome by the Riamese society.

Riamo is a developed country with an advanced, highly developed market economy along with a strong welfare state, universal healthcare, and a world-renowned public transportation industry. Riamo ranks highly in measures of democracy and political freedom, but areas like social stability and equality are situated as some of the worse globally. The country is a member of the Saltstil Pact and operates an extensive network of diplomatic relations with the support of the Riamese Armed Forces.

Etymology

The etimology of the country is said to come from a derivation of "Ram-Aeyo", native phrase for "Land of Rivers", but its origin is disputed.

Due to its vast valleys and relatively plain topographyt, he Riamese economy is strongly centered around its waterways, the most prominent ones being the Koleno, Segret, Mali and Pucamayo rivers.

Government & Politics

The Constitution of Riamo is the supreme political document that determines the political system and administration of the federation. The constitution establishes an asymmetric federation and semi-presidential republic, with a federal government composed of three distinct and separate branches:

• Legislative: The bicameral Federal Assembly, made up of X-member Council of the Federation and the X-member Council of Deputies, which adopt federal law, approve treaties, and has the power of the purse.
• Executive: X
• Judiciary: The Supreme Court and lower federal courts, whose judges are appointed by the legislature on the recommendation of the X, and who interpret laws and overturn those that conflict with the constitution.

Subjects

Riamo is composed of X subjects, which are the federated states that are established through the constitution. Operating under a system of asymmetric federalism, different subjects possess different levels of autonomy based on their dependence on the federal government. Subjects possess varying power over budgets and other domestic policies, with their status determining the extent that they can organise their own affairs.

X states	The most common type of subject. They have their own elected Governor and legislature, but rely on the federal government for the majority of their functions. Characterised by a high percentage of Riamese settlers.
1 associated republic	The most autonomous of all subjects. Associated republics have complete power over domestic affairs and are not obliged to comply with the Riamese constitution nor have any role in Riamese elections. Foreign policy and defence the responsibility of the Riamese Government, and the local economy is highly dependent on the Riamese government for support. The relationship between associated republics and the federal government is governed by External Association Agreement's. The only associated republic is Freice.
X republics	Republics have their own constitutions, chiefs of state, legislatures, and enjoy significant autonomy in domestic affairs, including the adoption of additional official languages and local taxation and budgetary powers. Differentiated from associated republics in that they remain under the ultimate authority of the Riamese Constitution.
X autonomous regions	Autonomous regions share many similarities with states, but enjoy greater autonomy and the opportunity to adopt additional official languages.
X territories	Often characterised by vast landscapes with sparse populations, territories remain heavily dependent on the federal government and have little autonomy regarding local economic and other domestic affairs. However, territories have unique guarantees regarding recreational and settlement legislation.
X federal dependencies	Only nominally different from territories, Federal Dependencies consist of a series of barely inhabited or desolate islands off the Riamese coast with limited autonomy and only small populations.
X federal cities	Consisting of major metropolis and their surrounding urban areas, federal cities have absolute autonomy in budget administration, planning, and some limited domestic policy-making. They remain, however, heavily dependent on the federal government for much of their functions.

Riamo's military is a noticeable player in the region, fueled mainly by a long legacy of a strong shipbuilding industry and a strong tendency to make alliances with militaristic countries. It is to be noted that Riamo offers citizens the possibility of serving in the army, while getting a salary and an education degree, with the condition of staying in the force for a minimum of 5 continuous years.

Due to the Agreement of Association established with Freice, the Riamo military is in charge of the defense of Freice. This includes having an obbligation to defend the country in terms of internal order and external affairs, as well as against natural disasters and other catastrophes. The agreement also established a shared Exclusive Economic Zone and allows for free movement in the other's waters.

Economy & Population

The Riamese economy has a strong natinalized sector, most of which operates as private companies but under governmental supervision and guidance. This includes heavy machinery, shipbuilding, transportation and resource extraction, among others.

Riamese economy had always been supported mainly by a strong agricultural sector, however, after the Pacific Revolution, the country experienced a massive economic boom lead by legislation towards the protectionism of local enterprises, the overexploitation of high value economical resources, benefitial geopolitical factors, guvernmental interventionism, and internal investments into high-value sectors. By the 1980's, Riamo was in an unprecedented economic boom that lead companies to start exporting goods to the world.

• Local assets of international enterprises
• Design and construction of fixed transport structures

Riamo is one of the top global producers of iron, peaches, wine, military armament, microchips, cabbage, oranges and ammonia.

Transport

After the nationalization of land transportation of 1977, subways, airlines, bus companies and shipping companies, all became government-owned. After that year, and during the Mid-century dictatorships, subways and airlines would see a massive increment in their bugdet, with subways adopting the Ferrer System.

Nowadays, many political parties have a possitive view on public transportation, but specially since 2006, when major investments on mass transit systems returned to Riamo, converting the nation into a world leader in the area.

The Ferrer System was adopted in the early 00s as a response to the low income of public transportation nation-wide. By the System, public transportation companies would purchase land in advance of a major investment in the area. Puchased land would then be used primarily for the construction of facilities provided by the company, such as subway lines and stations, but a large part of the land would be used to construct building that would not only further boost local land value, but aserve as residential and commercial buildings leased by the transportation company to further generate income.

The Ferrer System made income from public transportation skyrocket, but was severely critiziced later due to the supposedly overexploited people living and working in these leased land. The protests, however, were listened to, and the government created a law that would reduce taxes to people living in these areas.

Because of the Ferrer System, Riamo has become the only nation whose all mass transport systems produce revenue instead of requiring funding from the federal government.

From all subway systems in Riamo, the most well known ones are:

• Guri - Capital of Riamo, possesses the largest public transportation network in the continent.
• Nashe - Being the densest city in Riamo, Nashe counts with a vast public transportation system.
• Portona - The olimpic capital of Riamo. Counts with 14 subway lines built in less than 30 years and is in continuous expansion.

Agriculture

Agriculture in Riamo has always been a fundamental pillar of the economy, with peaches, oranges, grapes, cabbage, chetnuts, rice and cherries being the main exports.

Demographics

Although large, the Riamese population has been categorized as one of the overall poorest populations from the eastern hemisphere. With a literacy rate of under 65%, the country has a Poverty headcount ratio at 5.00 ACU of over 25%.

Industrialization in the country came by the early 18th century, lead by the shipbuilding industry and recent colonial independence. With a rapid adoption of the steam locomotive for intranational shipping, most cities soon had their first industrial railyards and central grand stations which, by the dawn of the 20th century, found themselves surrounded by a sprawling spaghetti of railways.

With industrialization came a rivalry between impoverished workers and farmers, and the high-incomed elites of factory owners. This would soon lead to the praising of populist figureheads and a rivalry between rural and urban areas of the country, the former leading on the agricultural and mining sectors, and the latter on the transit and shipbuilding ones.

The Riamese government has made several adjustments to its legal system trying to promote more refined lifestyles, being the most noticeable the approval of mandatory military service, where recruits are forced into literacy, elegancy, respect, loyalty and discipline. Upon 30 years of constant political battles for a wealthier Riamo, the country has seen an increase in literacy of over 7% and an overall increase on Living Income from 50% to 80% in those 30 years.

Nowadays, Riamo counts with the largest rail and public transit networks in the world, mostly used by daily working commuters, who benefit from its low cost and high efficiency.
