The Federation of Overseas Namorese Associations (Ваилаи Наморалан Кунгхоиленменг), commonly known by its syllabic abbreviation Vaihoimeng (Ваихоименг) is a political group in Namor that represents Overseas Namorese. As its name indicates, it consists of Namorese Associations based overseas.

History

Foundation

The Vaihoimeng was formed in NMR 2278 in a convention of Namorese Associations in Talonée, Ainin shortly after the Namo-Chorean War broke out. The federation published the "Declaration of Namorese Living Overseas," which pledged that "all overseas compatriots will sacrifice their time, energy and lives to defending their ancestral country from foreign aggression." The Vaihoimeng played a pivotal role in encouraging overseas Namorese to contribute to the Allied war effort in various ways. Some Vaihoimeng members returned to Namor to join the Namorese army. Others joined the armed forces of their country of residence.

Civil War years

After the war with Chorea ended, the Vaihoimeng moved from Talonée to Mojing.

As civil war between the Republicans and Liberationists resumed, the Vaihoimeng was split into a small faction that supported the Liberationists and a larger faction that supported the government. The split became permanent in NMR 2287 when pro-Liberationist Vaihoimeng members moved out of Mojing and settled in Liberationist-controlled areas and formed the Liberationist-led March 28 Front. When the Liberationists seized control of mainland Namor in NMR 2290, many pro-Republican Vaihoimeng members either defected to the pro-Liberationist Vaihoimeng or followed the Republicans to Peitoa, where they formed a rival federation called the United Associations of Overseas Namorese (Vailenhoi).

People's Republic years

As a member of the March 28 Front, the Vaihoimeng was allowed representation in the Central Council.

The pro-PRN Vaihoimeng and the pro-RON Vailenhoi competed for the allegiance of Namorese living overseas. With a larger membership and an ideology that was seen as supportive of overseas Namorese business interests, the Vailenhoi was more influential than the Vaihoimeng.

In NMR 2305, the Vaihoimeng and other smaller groups that had belonged to the March 28 Front were stripped of their representation in the Central Council and suppressed amid the onset of the Green Fever. Many Vaihoimeng leaders were harassed by the Green Youth Organization, which accused the Vaihoimeng of associating with reactionary elements. Some members joined the Liberationist Party to avoid persecution.

The Vaihoimeng was allowed back into Namorese politics by the order of President-General Gelai Antelope. During the NMR 2320s, the Vaihoimeng began to play a more independent role from the Liberationists, improving its credibility among overseas Namorese that had traditionally been aligned with the Vailenhoi. Gradually, the Vaihoimeng grew in membership and influence whereas the Vailenhoi declined. Following the end of the Peitoa regime in NMR 2368, the Vailenhoi merged with the Vaihoimeng.

Role in Namorese politics

According to the Vaihoimeng's own charter, the goal of the Vaihoimeng is to "serve as the voice of overseas Namorese in Namorese politics." It does this by remaining in contact with overseas Namorese Associations, proposing overseas Namorese-related legislation in the Central Council and acting as an advisor on overseas Namorese affairs to the President-General.

Because it is considered a nonpartisan organization, the Vaihoimeng is not allowed to form alliances with any other political party. It is considered a "neutral force" in Namorese politics.

The Vaihoimeng is the only political group in the Central Council that is not elected by the populace. Instead, it is automatically given 46 seats in every election. Deputies of the Vaihoimeng are elected in a convention of Namorese Associations.

The Minister of Overseas Namorese Affairs is a member of the Vaihoimeng.

Overseas activities

Outside of Namor, the Vaihoimeng promotes Namorese culture by supporting Namorese schools, Namorese art festivals and Namortowns.
