The 1975 Salamati presidential election took place on 6 September 1975. It is the first election in the history of Salamat.
The first president of Salamat, Mohammed Waladiya, died on April 18 1975 from natural causes. His counselor, Majid Khummam, was sworn in as president, following the former's wish. However, elections were planned for September of the same year, challenging Khummam's leadership over Salamat.
There were only two participants in the 1975 elections, both being from the National Salvation Party, due to Salamat being a one-party state at the time.
Majid Khummam and Mohammed Hamis, the former prime minister during the presidency of Waladiya, ran as a candidate in these elections.
Khummam won 75.2% of the votes, while Hamis won 24.8%, securing Khummam's leadership.
