Ceremonial duties

Anagonian General Toby D. Termington reviews members of 1 Regiment Federal during TBD.

1 Regiment Federal is responsible for providing ceremonial duties, including band and musical, honor and color guard, sentries, and escorts for Federal functions and any function under the direction of the President- these functions are organized under 1 Battalion, also known as the Ceremonial Group. A specialized detachment of 1 RF soldiers provide ceremonial sentry duties at Whiteriver Manor and Summerhall Presidential Reserve and will typically accompany the President and Vice President during their travels. 1 RF's band plays regularly for state affairs including formal dinners, the arrival of high-level delegates, state funerals and inaugurations, and other such events. Members of 1 RF's Ceremonial Group perform a bi-weekly evening parade in Southfront Park's Elliot Field, which is free and open to the public.

Custodian Group

Alpha Company of 1 Battalion, 1 Regiment Federal comprises the active duty and support staff of the Custodian Group, exclusively charged with the conduction of burials and funeral services at Federal Memorial Segrano Hill, a national graveyard exclusively for particularly distinguished members of the Meridon Defense Forces and those who died during active duty service. Soldiers in the Custodian Group meet extremely rigid physical and personal standards such as being required to be between 5'10 and 6'1 in height with no scars, blemishes or tattoos and was, until 2020, restricted to only males. Since its inception in 1898, only 800 individuals have been designated as Custodians, making the position the rarest designation in the Meridonian Army behind that of being an Army astronaut.

Protective Services

Protective services, including both guard/sentry units and fast reaction units, are organized under 2, 3 and 4 Battalions, also known as the Regimental Guard Group. 2 Battalion comprises of three infantry companies of specially-selected infantry soldiers who must both receive the endorsement of a current non-commissioned, warrant, or commissioned officer within the RGG as well as the recommendations of their battalion-level or higher commanding officer to serve in the unit. 2 Battalion soldiers specialize in armed sentry duties, riot and crowd control, and urban warfare, and provide supplementary or reactive security as needed to support Federal or District authorities in the Cordelia Federal District. 2 Battalion also provides regular Defense Forces formations with urban warfare and riot control training.

3 and 4 Battalions, also known as the Guard Group, provide security, ceremonial, and military support services to Meridonian diplomatic missions and consulates around the world. They are unique in the Army in that they are not organized traditionally beneath the battalion level but are organized according to embassy and then regional groupings. While 3 and 4 Battalions have historically taken recruits from both 1 and 2 Battalions, all soldiers with good disciplinary records, appropriate aptitude scores and at least five years of continuous active duty service are eligible to apply for the position. 3 Battalion also contains the Embassy Band Group, which performs abroad at the direction of the President for diplomatic engagements.
