Academia Militaris Olympia, or simply known as Olympia, is a three-year coeducational military academy located outside of the town Olympia in southwestern Latium. It is one of three Latin military academies, the others being Imperial Naval College at Hierapolis and Imperial Air Academy at Acrae.
Olympia was first formed in the late 18th century by Latin Empress Maria III to serve as the principal training ground for officers in the Latin Army, appointing her husband Michael of Ghant as the first Prefect of the Academy. Since then, Olympia has held the distinction as a national leadership institute in Latium, training most officers in the Latin Army, including individuals from overseas. To earn admittance to Olympia, an individual must be a Latin citizen, Belisarian citizen, or earn a nomination from either a member of the Imperial Household, an Advisor to the Emperor, or a Senator. Individuals may also be nominated by either the Monarch or his or her consort. Students at Olympia are referred to as cadets, and are officers-in-training, and become active members of the army upon their graduation.
Cadets traditionally study at Olympia for three years, and graduate with bachelors degrees in a variety of fields. Along with educational duties, cadets are expected to participate in physical and military training throughout their educational careers. Upon successful graduation, graduates are commissioned as an officer in the Latin Army, most often as a Tetrarchus or occasionally as a Decurion. Similarly, foreign graduates are commissioned into armies of their home countries. Olympia's foreign cadets make up almost 10% of all cadets. Female cadets were first admitted in 1989; today female cadets make up nearly 20% of the student body. A number of prominent figures have studied at Olympia, including X future Emperors, and X {other post}.
Each year, cadets at Olympia participate in Transvectio Equitum, where the Monarch formally reviews the cadets. Since the early 19th century, Transvectio Equitum has evolved into a nearly week-long celebration.
