Anselmo is a city in the Ibican state of Hamilton. It is the county seat of Lincoln County, and is the only city within the county. The population was 16,273 at the 2020 census, making it the 15th most populated city in Hamilton. It is a suburb of the Greater Underwood metro area, which encompasses much of northern Hamilton and had a total population of just over 1 million at the 2020 census.

Anselmo is located at the head of Underwood Sound, an inlet of the Bay of Albion.


Geography and climate

According to the Ibican Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.23 square miles (23.91 km2). The city is on the shore of the Bay of Albion's Underwood Sound.

Anselmo has a humid continental climate with warm summers along with cool nights, moderated by the nearby Bay of Albion and cold winters with annual snowfall averaging 5 inches.

Air

Lincoln County Airport is a public-use airport located in three miles north of the central business district of Anselmo. The Hamilton Air Ibican National Guard's Anselmo Combat Readiness Training Center co-utilizes the airfield.

Rail

Anselmo is served by the Hamilton Connection Line of Ibican Rail for passenger service, and is served by the Hamilton International Railroad for freight service

Major highways

  • HA-16.png Hamilton State Highway 16 has its northern terminus in the city, from here running south along the Bay of Albion coastline for over 300 miles before heading inland to cross the Kimball Peninsula, and crossing the Calahan state line.

Education

Anselmo, along with the rest of Lincoln County and portions of Keith County, is served by Anselmo Public Schools. The district has one high school, a junior high, an alternative/adult high school, and five elementary schools.

Anselmo also has a K-12 private school, Central Coast Academy.

Economy

While tourism is an important component of the area's economy, Anselmo has an industrial base. In particular, Anselmo is home to several major sawmills and logging companies

The Anselmo Correctional Center, a minumum security facility, is the city's second largest employer, only after Anselmo Public Schools.

Despite the city's small size, it is home to a handful of doctor's offices, a dentist, physical therapist, 10 churches, shopping center, and multiple restaurants. There are also a large number of rental homes and cabins along the Bay of Albion shore line.
