The Kingdom of Baranda (Barandian: Barandako Erresuma), known more commonly as Baranda, is a sovereign state in southwest Cybelleum in the world of Verthandi, bordered by the Republic of Varille to the South, the Kingdom of Luistia to the West, the Auvernian Federation to the Northeast, and the . The Barandians are an ancient people, said to be some of the remnants of the oldest Cybelleans, long protected by the Barandian mountains and the rugged terrain which protects their region from hostile threats. The oldest written records come from the Alpanan Republic, who tried several times and failed to conquer them in the Barandian Wars. However, the Republic's military did gain some success in the Fourth Barandian War, and eventually they forced the Barandian tribes, to become a client state of the Republic. After St. Petrus I ended the Republic and established the Holy Aventine Empire, he eventually visited Baranda in 379. St. Petrus wrote and signed the Edict of Bisray, which appointed a King from among the most powerful tribes to rule over Baranda, and furthermore granted Baranda its sovereignty as long as they recognized the universal authority of the Emperor, and made them exempt from all Imperial tribute. Baranda thus retained its independence from Imperial affairs, and with St. Petrus's ordinances being considered nigh on sacrosanct, this agreement was honored for centuries by the Empire. Several later Emperors even intervened when Hestaican nobles decided to infringe upon the agreement and tried to invade Baranda, or provided assistance and aid when Auvernia would try to conquer Baranda. This lead to the development of the Imperial-Barandian relations were strong, and the Barandians became accustomed to self-rule and sovereignty. However, after the fall of Imperial Hestaica during the Clementine Wars, the armies of Pierre Clement tried to conquer Baranda, but to no avail. However, with the Empire now removed from Hestaica, there was nothing preventing the expansionist Republic of Varille from attacking Baranda. Several wars have been fought between the two countries, with the Barandians managing to hold off the forces of Varille. However, tensions are high between the two countries. Baranda is well known for its decentralized and traditional government, as well as its desire for independence and self-rule.
