Brightburg, officially the Muncipality of Brightburg, is a city in the Grand Duchy of Radictistan. It is the third largest city in Radictistan and the capital of the County of Erdwoodsur. Brightburg has a vibrant industrial and service economy. The city lies on the Breitgolf, making it a major port city as well. Because of its high average income, low level of ambient poverty, and seaside location, Brightburg is considered one of the most desirable residences among Radictistan's major cities. The city has a highly cosmopolitan culture as a result of its status as a gateway for international trade and because of the prominence of the local services industries.

Government

The Municipality of Brightburg is governed through a Mayor-council government. A mayor, referred to as a Statmeister in the Radictistani language, is elected by a popular vote of residents for a four-year term. A nine-member Municipal Council is also elected by the voters from single-member districts. The council acts as the legislative branch of government. Brightburg has a strong Statmeister. The council's power over the chief executive is limited mostly to its budgetary and legislative authority.

The municipality is represented in the Radictistani House of Delegates through two constituencies. At the present time both seats are held by the opposition Liberal Democratic Party.

Law enforcement

Law enforcement services in Brightburg are provided by the Brightburg Municipal Police in conjunction with the Royal Security Police, the national law enforcement body. The municipal police of Brightburg are considered to be among the least corrupt in Radictistan and Brightburgers generally hold a positive opinion of the department.

Geography

The Municipality of Brightburg is located along Radictistan's west coast on the Breitgolf. The terrain is flat directly along the coast and slopes gently upward as one reaches further inland. The highest point within the municipality is seventeen meters above sea level. The total land area of the municipality is 1,044 km2.

Demography

The official population of Brightburg is 7,438,120. Population density is 7,125 persons per square kilometer. The racial makeup of Brightburg is 91.3% White, 4.7% Arab, and 4% all other races including multiracial persons making the city one of the most racially diverse in Radictistan. The city has a relatively high percentage of foreign-born residents a contains a number of ethnic neighborhoods such as "Little Imeriata" which is home to a number of Imerian immigrants and expatriates.

Economy

Brightburg is the wealthiest city in Radictistan after Nuxenstat itself. It has a robust economy based primarily on chemical processing, petroleum refining, and high value-added manufacturing processes. The municipality also boasts a service sector of uncommonly high stature. The Port of Brightburg is a major employer and facilitator of economic activity. Many important companies are located in Brightburg such as the petroleum giant Rothram Energy, electronics manufacturer Elektronenexport, semiconductor designer Virtuelle Designs, and several shipping companies including Star Line. Aerospace company Konavia has its main aircraft plant located near the airport. The city also hosts the Brightburg Stock Exchange, the second-largest securities exchange in Radictistan by market capitalization.

Transport

Air

Brightburg is served by Brightburg Municipal Airport, the third busiest airport in Radictistan by passenger traffic. Only domestic scheduled flights pass through the airport but international charter services also use the facility.

Road

Brightburg is connected to Greater Nuxenstat by the A11 motorway and to other west coast cities by the A16 motorway. Brightburg is the western terminus of Grafatban 23.

Rail

Brightburg is served by Brightburg Central Station, which is located on the West Coast Main Line and is the terminus of the Nuxenstat-Brightburg Main Line. Freight traffic to and from the municipality is served by dedicated oil and container terminals located on the coast.

Port

The Port of Brightburg is one of the largest in Radictistan. It is one of the principle points of entry for petroleum and chemical imports and is also a preeminent container port handling over five and a half million TEUs annually. The port is also visited by foreign cruise ships. With 39,000 employees the Port of Brightburg is one of the largest single employers in the municipality.

Public transit

Public Transit in Brightburg operates under the aegis of the Brightburg Municipal Transit Authority. The BMTA operates a fleet of buses and trolleybuses in addition to its flagship service, BMTA Rail, a tram-train network with twelve lines. All modes of transport share a common ticketing system centered around the WayCard, utilizing smart card] technology.

The BMTA is considered one of the safest public transportation networks in Radictistan. The level of crime, including violent crime, experienced by passengers and employees is much lower than that of other services such as those in Nuxenstat, Hartfer, and Wussrhas.

Education

Tertiary education

Brightburg is home to the eponymous University of Brightburg and Herg College. Both are considered above-average but not top-tier institutions. Also within the municipality is the Brightburg Maritime Academy, one of two nationally-funded training centers for merchant marine cadets.

Primary and secondary education

The municipal education authority operates primary schools, Preparatory Schools, Vocational Schools, and gymnasiums. Brightburg state schools are considered to be among the best in the country. There is also a greater than average number of private schools operating within the municipality because of its relative prosperity.

Culture

Media

Brightburg is home to one of Radictistan's mostly widely read newspapers, the Brightburg Times. The city hosts one other daily newspaper and an alternative weekly. The municipality represents one of the largest broadcast media markets in Radictistan and is served by a large number of private television and radio stations in addition to the RBS. Brightburg is an early adopter of digital terrestrial television. Brightburg is one of the main centers of film production in Radictistan.

Museums and galleries

Brightburg is home to the National Maritime Museum which chronicles the history of Radictistani maritime industries. The Brightburg Museum of Natural History is contained within the University of Brightburg campus. It houses the country's largest collection of fossilized plant and animal remains. Brightburg houses Radictistan's largest aquarium, the Breitgolf Aquarium. Local art museums include the Strecker Institute for Art and the Bormann Museum of Modern Art.

Performing arts

The Brightburg Municipal Opera is regarded as the finest opera company in Radictistan outside Nuxenstat. The Spiegelhof neighborhood in southeastern Brightburg is home to a large concentration of small stage theaters and concert venues.

Nightlife

Brightburg is known throughout Radictistan for its vibrant nightlife. The city's nightclubs, discothèques, restaurants, and upscale brothels attract large numbers of both Radictistani and international visitors.

Sport

Brightburg is represented in the Radictistani Football Association by the Brightburg Sieg and Brightburg Stat clubs. The Brightburg Sperbers rugby team plays in the municipality.

Parks and recreation

Brightburg boasts one of the largest networks of public recreation areas in Radictistan with ten parks totaling 897 hectares (8.97 km2) plus public swimming pools and other amenities. The Brightburg Zoo sits on 65 hectares of land along the southern edge of the municipality.
