The Civil Defense Units (Tamashek: ⴰⵡⴰⴷⵉⵎ ⴰⴳⵣ ⵊⵀⴰⵏ, Awadim Agez Ejhan) are an organ of the Charnean Army serving as an umbrella organization for conscripted reservist units, various pro-government paramilitary forces and regional militias across Charnea. The organization serves the dual purpose of assisting the counterinsurgency operations of the ICA Central Army in peacetime and facilitating mobilization of conscripts and local militias into combat capable units in case of war. The majority of the Civil Defense Units manpower belong to Coptic Nazarist militias aligned with the Charnean Army in their fight against the Azdarin Liberation Front and the Army of the Lord in eastern Charnea. Tamddaist Gharibs, ethnic Zarma, Ashkans as well as some Tenerian groups are also represented among the Civil Defense Units.
