Dewal
Dewal (Ndjarendie, 'religion, piety') is a new religious movement in Dewral with beliefs mainly based on anthroposophy, astrology, and self-knowledge. Its contents and tenets closely follow anthroposophy in its original forms as developed in Euclea; notably it seems to be wary and suspicious of syncretism as has been typical of Mabifian religious culture, and adherents often approach all other belief systems in a critical, historicizing light. Dewal is legally recognized as a religious affiliation in Mabifia, with about 4% of the population identifying as adherents, though many also report practicing it alongside fetishism, Badi or Sotirianity.
Dewal evolved in the 1980s from the organized discussion of anthroposophical ideas and practice of associated spiritual methods in Mabifia; it was heavily promoted if not propelled by Celadon Nkunga and Felix Nzanmi, prominent leaders in the Front for Unity and National Salvation during the Second Mabifian Civil War. Euclophile (but not necessarily foreign-educated) intellectuals of the middle and upper classes were especially drawn to Dewal, and from here it attained an inter-ethnic appeal. Dewal competes with various other new religious movements and fashions in the wealthier, cosmopolitan southeastern coast.
