Eritba is the capital and second-largest city of Elastan, after Sarposhan, and it is the country's economic, political, and cultural center. With a population of more than 9 million, it is also one of the largest cities in central Ausiana and the world. The earliest evidence of settlement in Eritba dates to the 8th millennium BC, but its growth and significance did not arise until the mid 1800s when industrialization and its centrality along major trade routes made it a vital city. Plans to relocate the capital from Eritba to another area due to air pollution and earthquakes have not been approved, despite numerous proposals.
