The Fifth Army was a field army of the Royal Confederate Army during the Northern War. It was raised following the outbreak of hostilities and took part in Operation Ziedonis, later playing a vital role in the Lake Yunkina Operations. The Fifth Army spent most of the war fighting in northern Cherniya, near Petrograd. Following the Letnian Spring Offensive, it was forced to retreat after absorbing the remnants of the Fourth and Third Armies.

History

The Fifth Army was one of four field armies created following the conclusion of the spring training cycle in 1941. It took part in the follow up operations into Letnia, skirting the Letnian-Cherniyan border where it fought a running battle with the 2nd Cherniyan Front and scattered Letnian forces. During the Lake Yunkina Operations, it played a supporting role by attacking Petrograd, forcing the 2nd Cherniyan Front to commit it's reserves to Petrograd. The focus on Petrograd allowed the Fourth and Seventh Armies to attack the Ivayev Pocket, annihilating two Letnian Fronts. Dispatching some of it's divisions to aid other armies further north, the Fifth Army spend most of the conflict pinning down the 2nd Cherniyan Front to keep it from attacking the rear flank of the other Jedorian forces in Letnia. Following the Letnian Spring Offensive, the Fifth Army was forced to disengage and retreat west, where it attempted a defense of Voronezh, only to be beaten in the Second Battle of Voronezh.
