Haajid Swati is a Tasiastani politician and lawyer who is the current President of Tasiastan, having been elected in 2017. He is a member of the leading New Democratic Party and is the party's leader. A practicing Sikh with mixed Tasiastan-Barangadesh heritage, he is the youngest President in Tasiastan's history having been elected at the age of 38. Swati began his career as a criminal defence lawyer in his home city of Jaljur. His political career began in 2012 where he contested the 2012 federal election for the Presidency, in which he lost narrowly to Conservative opponent Thirath Sandhu. Swati challenged incumbant president Sandhu in the 2017 federal election, winning a narrow majority.
Haajid Swati has been widely recognized in Tasiastani and international media for his fashion and style sense. Ideologically, Swati identifies as both a progressive and a social democrat. His administration has ushered in sweeping social reforms for the traditionally conservative Tasiastan Sikh-dominated culture, including allowing provincial legislatures to determine the legality of same-sex marriage. In the wake of the 2021 Tasiastan floods, Swati lobbied international humanitarian aid from figures like Atticus Moreau and Emília Medeiros.
