Origin

Titles and styles

Titles and styles are primarily governed by royal grants issued by the monarch, and also dynastic law, and the constitution.

  • The reigning monarch is The King or The Queen, and is afforded the style His or Her Majesty.
  • The King's wife is The Queen, who holds the style Her Majesty. The husband of a Queen regnant is afforded no title or styles unless otherwise granted by the monarch or previously held in his own right.
  • The heir apparent is afforded the status of a Prince of Gelonia, holding the primary substantive title of Duke of Oxonia. A female heir presumptive may be afforded the title of Princess Royal. The heir is afforded the style of Royal Highness.
  • A monarch's children, not the Duke of Oxonia or Princess Royal, along with children of a Prince or Princess, are bear the title of Prince or Princess with the territorial designation "of Gelonia" from birth. A princess generally loses her territorial designation upon marriage, and assumes that of her husband (if applicable). A prince only discards his territorial designation if he is granted a historic duchy.
  • Spouses of a monarch's sons or daughters are afforded any titles or styles that the monarch bestows upon them. Spouses of the monarch's sons assume the equivalent of their husband's title and style.

Members of the Royal Family
