The Joint Defense Force in Asteria, more often referred to as the Joint Defense Force or the J.D.F., is a mutual defense organization founded by the Federation of Asteria and Fifth Republic of Roeselle on April 8th, 1954, based upon what is now known as the Treaty of South Point (Sud Pointe), and was established to maintain mutual security of the two Asterias. In the years since it's formation, the JDF has seen relative success and has gradually grown in size and strength.

The Joint Defense Force began as a mutual defense and military operations pact that was mainly used when conducting organized raids on hostile targets across member nations to combat terrorism and for it's small-scale campaigns against piracy in the coastal areas of the Asterias, along with contraband smuggling organizations, and even combating the growth of drug cartels. The Joint Defense Force has also been known for it's general opposition towards antagonistic regimes that promote or endorse terrorist, drug smuggling and pirate related organizations. The JDF spends most of it's time performing military exercises, including it's more famous large scale transcontinental drills, as well as patrolling international waters in the Asterias to prevent any growth in piracy, and protecting free passage of trade vessels through the Arucian Strait. In the last two decades the Joint Defense Force has increased its opposition towards smuggling rings, especially towards human trafficking, explosives and contraband, and drug trafficking by more threatening organizations that operate within member countries.

While the Joint Defense Force is open to all, it generally is strict in its requirement that member states be based in the Asterias as the core focus is to ensure regional cooperation, mutual defense, and a body for multinational cooperation in regards to threats that emerge within the region, and any threats that may emerge from out of the region that threaten Asterian nations. As of April 4th of 2017, there are six member states: the Federation of Asteria, the Federal Republic of Roeselle, the Federative Republic of Marirana, the Republic of Vilcasuamanas, the Second Republic of the Eisenkuste, Republic of Duquesne, and the United Republic of Luminika.

In Gaullican, the organization is known as the Force de Défense Commune en Astéria, or the FDCA, but in the interests of better organizational cohesion, all military equipment and facilities are marked with the Asterian abbreviation since 1969.

JDF Military

The JDF's military personnel all belong first and foremost to member states, who are free to pull out of the JDF at their leisure and to request limited use of their personnel in specific operations, however, the JDF does have it's own stockpile of weapons, vehicles, and other military and administrative related equipment and properties that do not belong to a single member state.

History

(BELOW PORTION UNDER REVISION DUE TO KYLARIS REBOOT) The Joint Defense Force has been a major presence in the Acrucian Sea since its foundation in 1964, and a major reason why it was created was to manage piracy in the Acrucian Sea, which was on the rise as several of the poorer small island nations in the Acrucian Sea were facing economic troubles through the 1960s. Though the anti-piracy operations were quite successful, JDF operations would be vastly altered when the Roessan Civil War broke out in 1967. The Joint Defense Force then became dedicated to destroying the Communist uprising in the Mountainous regions of Roeselle, and while the 1969 coup in Roeselle temporarily led to Roeselle being kicked from the Joint Defense Force, it eventually returned to the Joint Defense Force, and relations normalized after the Roessan Dictator ordered a presidential referendum and the resumption of government activities along with a constitutional referendum in 1975.

From there onward the Joint Defense Force shifted its focus briefly back towards piracy and saw a few minor confrontations with Isla Juanan Navy, which marked a temporary rift between the JDF as an organization, and far left organizations worldwide. However, Piracy was already on its last legs within the Acrucian Sea in the late 70s, and by 1981 the Joint Defense Force then shifted its focus towards dangerous drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamine, and the Bureau on Illicit Trade was founded in 1982 to combat cartels along with the trade of illegal weapons and eventually by the early 90s, with a major focus on putting an end to human trafficking in the Asterias.

In the mid-1990s, there was a short lived rift within the organization, as the first Socialist President of Roeselle took issue with the history of the JDF and made public statements suggesting withdrawal, however, public opinion in Roeselle began to form around the idea that opposing the JDF was akin to supporting the revolutionaries of 1967, and so he eventually flipped on this position. The damage was done, and Roeselle lost some of its standing within the JDF, however, as the Roessan President was voted out of office by the turn of the millennia, this ended up having a minimal effect on operations in the long run.

Partnerships

The Joint Defense Force works in conjunction with the Military Technology Exchange Treaty Organization (MTETO), which is incorporated as a major committee within it in an effort to ensure that new innovations in military technology can be fairly exchanged between member states to improve overall military operations cohesion.

Structures

The Joint Defense Force breaks down many of its focuses into civilian and military committees that provide equal representation for member states and allow all states to provide input on any military, counter-terror, and civil cooperation between member states. Among these are several permanent committees which always have representatives, though they are not all constantly active, the first and largest being the Joint Defense Armament Committee (JDAC, also referred to as 'Armacom'), the Joint Defense Committee on Logistics, (JDCoL, also called 'Comlog'), the Joint Military Technology Exchange Committee (JMTEC, also referred to as 'Miltec' and 'J-Tec'), the Member State Disputes Resolution Committee (MSDRC, also called 'Rescom'), and the newer Counter-Terrorist Operations Committee (CTOC, or 'C-Toc'). These committees then submit all resolutions in regards to negotiations between member states in regards to courses of action taken by the member nations to High Command where they are approved by JDF high command's Joint Chiefs of Staff and then handed up to the Supereme Commander of the Joint Defense Force for executive approval.
