Marais, officially the City of Marais, is one the oldest and most historic cities in the Federation, having been originally founded by Gaullican colonies, only to fall into Estmerish hands, that were eventually forced to hand it over the Patriots during the Asterian War of Independence. The city was the first and only Asterian city to be sacked by a foreign army during the Roessan-Asterian War, and during the second Industrial Revolution, it's ports made it a major shipbuilding city. During the Civil War, Marais began pumping out ships and weaponry to supply the Federals, while thousands of it's citizens joined up and went off to fight. The Great Depression saw the city's great shipyards lay in abandonment, and it wasn't until the Great War that the city began to reclaim it's past fame.

Today, the city remains one of the oldest in the country - known for being the supposed "most haunted city in Asteria." It serves as the headquarters for the Joint Defense Force.
