Jon Ebsen Schou (born May 20, 1965; aged 59) is a Scovernois politician currently serving as Leader of the Social Labour Party. Schou also served as the Lord Mayor of Rimso for six years between 2017 and 2023.
Schou was born in Rimso, and studied at the Steffanite University of Rimso, obtaining a cand.scient.pol degree in political science in 1989. Whilst at university, he chaired the Scovernois League of Young Communists, but later renounced his ideology after he was couped from his position by a group espousing equalism and banned from the party. In 1991, he joined the Social Labour Party. He was elected to the Rigsdagen in the 1998 election.
Schou served in the Rigsdagen until 2016, when he resigned to become his party's candidate for the 2017 Rimso mayoral election. Against the national trend, and amidst a widespread party scandal, Schou won the 2017 election by a comfortable margin. As mayor, he oversaw a myriad of urban policies including expansions to the Rimso Letbane, but most notably became an incredibly influential member of the SAP, and remained the party's most popular politician throughout its years in opposition.
In 2023, Schou became the leader of the SAP, succeeding Armela Viram Srimathi. He criticised "eristic ideological discourse" within the party[1], and sought to bring the party closer to the centre.
