The LMP 2000 (LMP - Laki mitraljez pešadije in Serbian or Light Infantry Machine gun) is a belt-fed 7.62 mm general-purpose machine gun manufactured by Nikolian weapons manufacturer Filipovski Weapons Systems as a further development of the LMP 62. The weapon is designed as a joint project of Filipovski Weapons Systems and Military Technical Institute of Nikolia and is intended to replace the LMP 62 in use by 2025. As of 2019, about 35% of the units received the updates.

Design

The LMP 2000 is, like its predecessor, the LMP 62, chambered for 7.62×51mm standard cartridge, however, unlike LMP 62, the LMP 2000 is gas-operated and employs a completely revamped weapon's operation. The fire selector is ambidextrous and contains the safety and three firing positions, thus allowing for a selectable fire rate. The butt stock is modular and can easily be adjusted in length, and a numerous of Picatinny allow its user to attach various different optical sights and other accessories. The quick-change barrel has a heat shield and a carrying/barrel exchange handle which allows for a quick and easy barrel changing without protective gloves. The iron sights consist of a collapsible front sight and a height and windage adjustable rear diopter sight. For feeding, 50-round belted ammunition pouches or 120-round belted ammunition boxes can be mounted on the left side and the weapon can be installed on all mounts or bipods originally designed for LMP 62.
