Surface Combatants
Type 20 / Hero Class Destroyer
The Type 20 Hero-class consists of four guided-missile destroyers built for the Sceptred Navy. The class is the core of the NAVA 20 fleet program to renew and modernize the surface fleet. The design of the class arose from a mid-twenty-tens Gaellician-Pojački project to construct for the latter nation Novigrad-class surface combatants. The Hero class shares parts and features with the Pojački frigate-destroyer, though is considerably larger.
The Hero class is a multi-mission surface combatant emphasizing anti-air capabilities. The Type 20 was conceived as Gaellicia's capital ship of the twenty-first century, able to operate independently or at the head of a task force. As of 2022, the Navy has already extensively used the young vessels, deploying them abroad to protect Gaellician trade routes and suppress piracy as well as stationing them in North Adlantic and Argic waters as deterrence against aggression from neighboring nations.
Members of the Gaellician press have criticized some elements of the design. Criticism includes the perceived small number of vessels in the class and high operating costs. A particular criticism, applied to all new surface combatants of the Navy but emphasized for the Heroes due to their intended mission, is the lack of a vertically launched cruise missile, limiting long-range strike capability.

Type 28 / Hakan Class Frigate
The Hakan-class (Guardian) frigates were the main surface combatants of the Sceptred Navy from 1990 to 2020. The frigates were designed and built to be versatile warships capable of tackling a wide variety of missions either alone or as part of a task force. The multi-purpose frigate's specialization lies in Anti-submarine warfare, with a towed sonar array allowing passive detection of submerged submarines.
Initially, eight frigates were ordered in 1985. All eight frigates were constructed and commissioned from 1985 to 1995, but in 1993, two of the frigates were controversially sold to a foreign navy. The remaining six vessels continued to serve in the Sceptred Navy until four were retired from 2018 to 2022. The two most recently constructed frigates remain in service into the present. The last two of the class are expected to be replaced in the 2020s by Type 38 frigates.
