The Ministry of National Defence (Verathi: Rijksministerie van Nationale Defensie), is the Elven Ministry responsible for the Great Elven Armed Forces, which is responsible for defending Atmora-Arcadia's interests and values at home and abroad.
National Defence is the largest department of the Government of Atmora-Arcadia in terms of budget and as well as staff. The ministry is headed by the Deputy Minister of National Defence, who is the ministry's senior civil servant, and reports directly to the Minister of National Defence.
The Ministry of National Defence was created during the aftermath of the 2215 Flensburg crisis, in which the Atmoran Chief of the Defence Staff Grand Admiral Naomi, Archduchess of Wolfina requested greater defence spending in order to crib pirate and marauder attacks on Atmoran and Arcadian colonies. Under the National Defence Act, the Great Elven Armed Forces is completely separate and distinct organisation from, and is not part of the Ministry, however the ministry provides civilian support systems for the armed forces.

Senior military officials
Chiefs of the Defence Staff
The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) is the professional head of the Great Elven Armed Forces and the most senior uniformed military adviser to the Minister of National Defence and the Empress.
The CDS is supported by the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff (VCDS) who deputises and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the armed services aspect of the MND through the Central Staff, working closely alongside the Deputy Minister. They are joined by the professional heads of the three Great Elven armed services (Imperial Elven Space Force, Great Elven Army and Imperial Marechaussee) and the Director General of the Military Intelligence and Security Service and the Commander of the Korps Commandotroepen. All personnel sit at OF-9 or at OF-10.
Together the Chiefs of Staff form the Chiefs of Staff Committee with responsibility for providing advice on operational military matters and the preparation and conduct of military operations.
