The Ministry of War (五兵尚書部, nga′-prjang-′djang′-st′ja-be′) or Ministry of Five Forces etc. was a Themiclesian government department responsible for land warfare in Themiclesia-proper and areas adjoining.

History

The Ministry of War evolved with the head of government, which passed between different offices as politics evolved. While early warfare was co-ordinated from the Chancery, the need to administer resources that were not under the authority of the chancellor created a broader bureaucracy based in the royal secretariat, the Council of Correspondence. During the late Tsjinh dynasty, military affairs were assigned to the Secretary of State for 2,000 Bushels, but in the early Sungh a dedicated portfolio was created. Since the Sungh, every subsequent dynasty has retained this position in more-or-less the same role. The Chancery's functions gradually deprecated, and the Secretary of State for War came to oversee the military departments under it. This authority was initially not institutional but incidental. Since all departments send reports and seek royal permission to do many things, the Secretary of State for War intercepts such documents and drafts replies on the crown's behalf.

Under the Secretary of State for War were several subordinate ministers.
