The NJM Salamah (Arabic: سَلَمَةُ) is a 8x8 wheeled Riysian armored troop transport, notable for being widespread and serving as the basis for several specialized vehicles such as mortar carriers, air defense, and reconnaissance vehicles. It first entered production in 1985, and service in 1988. Its namesake is Salamah ibn al-Akwa, a famously skilled foot soldier and Companion.

Description

Capabilities and Features

The Salamah uses Amerit MDA8X-series multifuel diesel engines for propulsion. The engines are turbo-charged and liquid-cooled, and allows the vehicle to reach speeds of up to 100 km/h on-road. It is eight-wheel driven and uses a reversible automatic transmission.

All variants are fully amphibious and can negotiate water obstacles such as rivers without any modifications, as well as depart from and enter onto amphibious assault ships from the water. In water, it is propelled by two hydrojets, allowing most variants to reach speeds of up to 10 km/h. In the event of water entering the vehicle, it has a drainage system to prevent it from sinking. Due to its light weight, it is also quite easily airmobile, making it a favorite of airborne forces.

The Salamah in its base form can carry up to 10 soldiers or roughly 7,000 kilograms of cargo. It has an environmental control system to maintain crew comfort, and firing ports on the side to allow soldiers inside to fire their small arms. The Salamah-B adds GPS-based navigation as well.

Protection

The armor of the Salamah consists of welded steel that, on the base model, provides all-around protection against small arms, and frontal protection against 12.7 mm rounds. The Salamah-B increases this to all-around protection against 12.7mm rounds and frontal arc protection against 15.7 mm rounds. Its tires are protected against anti-personnel mines and small arms fire.

The Salamah can also add appliqué armor in the form of NMD modules, RAM such as Nakidka, or explosive reactive armor such as Kontakt-5 or Dar'aa to increase protection. Although exceedingly rare, all models can mount the Riysian Burkan active protection system.

Additionally, the vehicle is completely CRBN protected. For added crew protection, periscopes are used in place of vision blocks or windows. It also has an automatic fire-suppression system, and a smokescreen discharge system, consisting of 6 grenade-launching barrels.

Armament and Optics

The primary armament of the Salamah is the 15.7 mm RAKD heavy machine gun, with 500 rounds. The Salamah-B upgrades the main gun to a 27 mm MANAR autocannon, to better engage most modern armored vehicles.

For secondary armament, the Salamah uses a coaxial 8.54 mm RAMD machine gun with 2000 rounds. Additional firepower can be provided by embarked infantry via firing ports on the sides. Both the primary and secondary armaments are stabilized to ensure accuracy while firing on the move.

The sights utilized on the Salamah is the Riysian 1N85 optics system, consisting of a telescoping optical sight, an image intensifier, and a thermal imaging sight. The Salamah-B uses the 1N00 optics system, which consists of a new-generation upgrade to the 1N85.
