The Northern Apartments refers to an imperial palace in Dongjing originally built in the Li Dynasty that has been subsequently expanded. The Northern Apartments have been the actual residence of the imperial family since the Li Dynasty, with a few brief interruptions due to war or the implosion of a dynasty. The Daming Palace, meanwhile, has traditionally been the center of the imperial administration and the court rather than the imperial household. By area, the Northern Apartments are one of the largest palaces in Kylaris, second only to the Daming.
