Omocha de Asobu!
Omocha de Asobu! (Miranian: 玩具で遊ぶ, "Fun with Toys!") is a Gylimanga series. Created by Chihiro Munakata, it was first published on Telecomix in 2017, and later collected in tankōbon volumes and translated into English and French.
The series updates sporadically.
Plot
The series follows the adventures of an unnamed female character, who is slightly bashful but eager to experiment with her sexuality. It mainly shows her testing out various sex toys and reviewing them for her website.
Background
Chihiro Munakata had achieved popularity as a result of his series Kenkyūsha Ayako to joshu Himeko, Joseitenin Maki Suzue, and Bijin onna jōshi Takizawa-san, and by the 2010s found himself in demand as an artist, particularly accepting commissions from clothing companies and advertising for sex work services and sex shops.
For the latter commissions, he came up with a concept to avoid Office for Public Protection Against Advertising regulations against "memorable" advertising: he created a fictional female character he could use as a "reviewer" for the products. This enabled the strips to be considered informative rather than advertising.
Chihiro found himself enjoying the character-driven comedy he introduced into the "reviews", and began collecting them into a manga series, later expanding on their characterisation.
Reception
Initially published on Telecomix, Omocha de Asobu! gained a positive reception. Reviewers praised the series' characterisation, easygoing comedy, and graceful handling of sexuality. Radix highlighted the sympathetic portrayal of the main character, whose balance of bashfulness and interest in new experiences made her a relatable "everywoman" character, and praised her appearance in Chihiro's typically elegant outfits.
It was later collected in tankōbon volumes as Chihiro gathered new chapters, and translated into English and French.
