Organization and Structure of the Tarsan Military

The Tarsan military's current doctrine emerged from lessons in Yisrael during the Fourth West Scipian War. Engagements with new weapons and tactics from Belisaria as well as the emergence of tactical nuclear weapons meant that a new doctrine would be necessary. Massed ranks of forces tended to be inflexible and fall quickly to large scale guided conventional weapons and weapons of mass destruction. Large scale defense of the significant sized border regions with Bahktar and Marad as well as the ability to attack offensively as necessary were considered a must in the changing environment of modern conflict. As a result, large scale Tarsan operations utilize mechanized forces to probe enemy lines for their weakest point where air and artillery power can quickly be massed with precision strikes. This then allows remaining massed armor, air, and mechanized formations to quickly strike the enemy at their weakest point. Deep penetrations of enemy lines result in the breaking up and disorganization of enemy forces and permit mechanized and armored formations to quickly defeat what is left. In this way, vast areas of land may be defended or taken rapidly.

Order of Battle

A typical Tarsan force is reliant on significant armored support with large aerial support from strategic bombers. Significant numbers of reservist personnel can be summoned during wartime to fill Cohorts. During peacetime, the vast majority of Tarsan cohorts are simply staffed with a command staff and only exist in theory. Reservists are quickly raised in vast numbers during war to fill in the formations. Legion operates 17 peacetime Cohorts, the Tarsan equivalent of a division. There are eight Phalanx Cohorts and nine Cataphract Cohorts. These are the equivalent to motorized rifle divisions and armored cohorts. The total number of personnel in the ground forces numbers 198,500 during peacetime with an additional 51,500 remaining personnel between the navy and air force.
