The Free Confederation of Ostiar, known more commonly as Ostiar, is a soveriegn state in southwest Cybelleum in the world of Verthandi, bordered by the Republic of Varille to the West, the Auvernian Federation to the North, and a maritime border with the League of Jaconia to the South. Although a part of Imperial Hestaica, a province of the Holy Aventine Empire almost two millennia, Ostiar developed a different linguistic tradition than the rest of the Hestaica. During the Clementine Wars, Ostiar was overrun by Auvernian soldiers. Hestaican guerrilla resistance was the fiercest in Ostiar, and so Clementine forces fought a long and bloody campaign to quash the resistance, inflicting enormous casualties on the civilian population and crippling most of Ostian society, erasing many of the authorities and traditions which had been held under the Empire. They established the First Republic of Ostiar, but were eventually forced to withdraw at the end of the war. After the withdrawl of Auvernian troops, the Republic quickly fell into factionalism and quickly collapsed. For the next century, Ostiar was a politically unstable civilization and plagued by factionalism, armed militias and foreign intervention, going through several coups, revolutions, and civil wars. In 1923, the seventh Republic of Ostiar went bankrupt, and Ostiar once again fell into a Civil War. The war was one by Leftists, who created the Free Confederation. More TBD
