Radio-Saint-Baptiste, more commonly known and branded as Radio-SB, is the national public broadcaster of Saint-Baptiste. Founded in 1948 after the country's independence from Blayk, Radio-SB is funded by a mixture of government grants, television license fees, and personal donations, and currently operates a radio station and a television channel of the same name. Radio-SB's content includes current news, investigative journalism, and entertainment. As of 2018, Radio-SB is the most popular broadcasting service in Saint-Baptiste, and maintains a relatively respectable position within the Rum Gulf at large.
History
Radio-Saint-Baptiste was officially founded on 30 March 1948, a year after the independence of Saint-Baptiste as a sovereign country. For most of the organization's existence, Radio-SB (as it commonly became known by the 1970s) maintained a strict pro-government line during the reign of President Claude-Antoine Bachelet until his death in 1988, despite the broadcaster's official neutral position. Since Bachelet's death and the democratization of Saint-Baptiste in the 1990s, Radio-SB has become more neutral and facts-based in its stances, in part due to the 1993 Government Broadcasting Neutrality Act.
Originally only operating a single radio station, Radio-SB announced in 1985 it would begin operations on a television channel, aimed at providing Baptistois news and entertainment, including licensed Amand and Blaykish programs and shows. Télé-Saint-Baptiste launched on 1 January 1987, including in its original programing the local nightly news program Saint-Baptiste Today (Principean: "Saint-Baptiste Aujourd'hui"), the flagship broadcast of the channel. In 1994, Télé-SB changed its name to Radio-SB, to strengthen its connection with the radio station and larger organization.
Since 2013, Marc Allais has served as the Director of Radio-Saint-Baptiste.
Services
Radio-SB's radio station and television channel provide a combination of local Baptistois media, primarily music and island-wide news, and Principean language programs from Amandine and Blayk. The broadcaster has a strong working relationship with both Société Radio Amandine and Radio-Blaycais, and is known for licensing and publishing content from these larger broadcasters, particularly international news and current affairs.
In 2004, Radio-SB declared its intention to include more programs in Baptistois Creole, and since then has promoted Baptistois Creole music and discussion on its radio channel. As of 2020, around half of Radio-SB's content is now in Baptistois Creole, mostly on its radio station.
