The Royal Acrean Army (Acrean Nordic: Kongelige Nordiske Hæren) is the land warfare branch of the Acrean Armed Forces. It is the oldest branch of the armed forces. The official commander-in-chief of the Acrean Armed Forces and therefore the Army is the Crown, with the Chancellor traditionally appointed by the Crown as the acting commander-in-chief since the mid-19th Century. The KNH is administered by the Ministry of Defence and is led by the Chief of the General Staff.

The army is the largest Acrean military branch.

History

The Acrean Army is among the oldest standing modern armies in Tyran, and traces many of its traditions to the Acrean Imperial Army of antiquity. The first regiments of professional soldiers stood up predominantly consisted of former Acrean mercenaries, with a wealth of experience and training from prior service under various Acrean or foreign nobles. The foundations of the modern Acrean Army are found in Reformation-era cultural and political changes. Among the policy changes emphasised in the Ivorian Reforms, informed by a return to Imperial-era ideals, was the institution of a nationally-funded and recruited military force. Mercenaries had become the norm in Acrea during the period of civil wars in the 14th century and continued to be so into the 15th century.

Doctrine

Organisation

The active-duty army consists of the professional regular army, and at the end of 2021 had approximately 500,000 personnel. Conscription ended in Acrea in 1990, as the military's active components moved to an entirely professional force. The KNH's reserve is made up of two components: the Army Reserve and Regular Reserve. The Army Reserve is a volunteer reserve force and is kept to a much higher readiness and training standard than the Regular Reserve. Its personnel are required to attend regular training at least once a month, and two-week trainings three times annually. Due to their greater time commitment, Army Reserve personnel are also afforded higher pay compensation than the Regular Reserves.

The highest level of command in the Acrean Army is the Acrean Joint Headquarters (Acrean Nordic: Gemensammes Hovedkvarter), or HKV. Subordinate to the HKV is the Army High Command (Nordic: Hærens overkommando), or OKV, led by the Chief of the Army.

The combat strength of the Acrean Army is organised into two Army Groups- Army Group North (AGN), commanded by Gen. , and Army Group Center (AGC), commanded by Gen. Erich von Rohr. The active duty component of the Acrean Army is composed of four field armies: 6th Army in Götland and 1st Army in Steyr under AGN, and 2nd Army in Rjukan with the 8th Army in Vannes under AGC. Together, the four field armies as of 2023 comprise a combat strength of 26 active duty combat divisions.
