The Skaldafen National Army is the terrestrial branch of the Armed Forces of the North Star (AFNS), serving alongside the Skaldafen National Navy, Skaldafen National Police and Skaldafen National Intelligence. Though not the centrepiece of the AFNS, the SNA is a relatively streamlined and well-equipped force. As there is no formal Air Force wing, the SNA is in direct command over a relatively large quantity of aviation resources despite still being somewhat smaller than most of its strategic rivals.

As the AFNS is known for stealing elements or entire designs from other armed forces, the SNA is a key recipient of this behaviour. With a focus on equipment interchangibilty, cost management and general streamlining, the Army tries encourage these altered designs that conform to its matching part and caliber standards.

Organization

Answering to the Skaldafen National Army Command (SNAC), which in turn answers to AFNS Central Command and the Council of Marshals, the AFNS is organized into thirty-eight 'divisions'. Each division is composed of two 3,000 to 4,500-man strong brigades, and ten of these divisions are currently in reserve. The majority of the SNA is positioned along and nearby Skaldafen's southern land border with Belfras, which the Council has insinuated to be the county's primary external threat. These units are collectively organized into four distinct "Army Theatres", designated "Black", "Blue", "Red" and "Orange".

The Black Theatre (3 Divisions) is located along Bastard Lake and is the smallest overall due to the defensible nature of the local terrain. Blue Theatre (5 Divisions) is located along the Makiran Ocean, and is similarly small due to the SNN's heavy presence. Red Theatre (10 divisions) is located along Skaldafen's northern land borders and the Qualet Bay, with a noticeable cluster surrounding the Enyama border. Lastly, Orange Theatre (12 divisions) is located along the border with Belfras, which the Council has insinuated to be the Skaldafen's primary external threat. The additional 10 divisions in reserve are likely to be deployed to Orange Theatre in the event of war, or to replace standing divisions of a given theatre that are deployed overseas.

Mechanized Brigades

At 54 Brigades in total, the various Mechanized Bregades make up the vast majority of the SNA. Focused on tactical hardness, Infantry Battalions in one of these Brigades have dedicated tank destroyer squadrons dispersed among the Battalion, and use infantry fighting vehicles as their primary means of transportation.

Armoured Brigades

Held in strategic reserve as a spearhead tool, 8 dedicated Armoured Brigades are coalesced into four Armoured Divisions. It is the only part of the AFNS to make use of the advanced SJLR.9 MBT design, and is the typically the first part of the SNA to receive the most up-to-date equipment and technology.

An Armoured Brigade is expected to maintain ~3,500 personnel organized along following lines:

Arctic Brigades

The least numerous unit of its level, there are 6 Arctic Warfare Brigades in the AFNS. Using personal snowmobile vehicles and temperature-adjusted helicopters as their primary form of travel, these Brigades are usually attached to a Mechanized Brigade in order to form an entire division.

An Arctic Brigade is expected to maintain ~3,000 personnel organized along following lines:

Airborne Brigades

A specialist air cavalry category of unit, 8 Airborne Brigades are organized into 4 Airborne Divisions. All elements are modified to be air mobile, and are consequently less well-armed and armoured than other divisions. While trained for parachuting, the SNA lacks the number of transport planes to do so in large numbers.

An Airborne Brigade is expected to maintain ~4,500 personnel organized along following lines:

Doctrine

As the Skaldafen National Navy is responsible for power projection and maintaining the various Skaldanian island territories, the Army is primarily tasked with the protection of the mainland. As a result, it is focued on tactical hardness and in depth reconnaissance. Mechanized Brigades have integrated Armoured Squadrons in their Infantry Battalions, and every single Battalion has at least two seperate kinds of Force Recon Squadrons integrated into the formation. Armoured and Airborne Divisions are the specialized offensive units for supplementing a large scale offensive, while Mechanized and Arctic Divisions are more defensive in nature.
