Syaran Naval Infantry (Syaran: Сијаранската поморска пешадија, Sijaranskata pomorska pešadija, SPP) are the naval infantry force of the Syaran Commonality Navy. They were established alongside the Navy in 1988 as part of the foundation of the Syaran Commonality Armed Forces. Their primary role is conducting amphibious operations, though in practice they have been utilized as light infantry.
The SPP consists of eight regiments for a total of 13,000 personnel. Naval infantry are typically organized into coastal defense brigades, operating to protect Syara's coastline alongside coastal anti-ship missile batteries. The SPP are equipped with amphibious vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and air support provided by Syaran Naval Aviation. Along with the airborne brigades of the Syaran National Army and the Special Troops Brigade, the SPP operate as part of Syara's rapid reaction forces capable of hasty deployments to strategic locations. Though they are sometimes considered "special forces" by foreign observers, Syaran Central Command does not recognize them as such.
The SPP inherited much of their legacy from their predecessors of the same name that served under the Navy of the Syaran Republic. In their modern history the SPP saw extensive combat during the Zemplen War, though due to the nature of the conflict they were largely used outside their typical role of amphibious forces and instead served as light infantry for Syaran ground forces. Today most Syaran naval infantry are stationed along Syara's western coastline in Scitaria and Hayreniky. Smaller detachments are located in Symmeria, and in Chryse as part of Chryse Regional Command.
