TVN is a major television broadcaster in the United Kingdom of Malgrave. It was formed in the 1980s following the liberalisation of broadcast regulations at the end of the civil war.

History

Strict broadcasting regulations included as part of the National Security and Stabilisation Act of 1938 resulted in the demise of a large swathe of independent broadcasters and radio networks, and eventually, the Malgravean Broadcasting Corporation was the only major broadcaster operating in the country.

After the completion of the Epping-Rensk Agreement and the conclusion of the civil war, a series of reforms were made to the National Security and Stabilisation Act of 1938 which significantly reduced regulations around broadcasting, with one of these companies being TVN formed by a mixture of private investors. It was a fortunate time for the company, as the start of the cultural revolution resulted in a massive upswing in productions and the company found itself quickly established as one of the major media broadcasters.

TVNs good fortunes didn't last for long as the 90s and the Lost Decade brought about massive economic hardship for the company which nearly collapsed under the strain, and the company was put up for sale. In part, due to the financial hardship of the time only a few bids were taken seriously, with the winning bid being a collaborative effort between the Most Illustrious Glorious Confederation of Proud Malgravean Proletarians and a collection of Regional Social Solidarity Councils.

Television Channels

TVN operates a variety of channels which are available to watch 24/7 on multiple formats.

TVN One

TVN One is the flagship channel and is where the company showcases their premier productions. Historically it has been the platform for successful shows like Revolution and Music Showcase. It also broadcasts special events such as underwater exploration missions, national holidays which includes broadcasts from the ASG HQ and space missions.

TVN Two

TVN Two is the second channel on TVN. It is known for showing shows for a slightly older and more mature audience, however, a portion of its programming is often experimental and tested on the channel with some being selected for broadcast on TVN One.

TVN Three

TVN Three is a channel dedicated to showcasing regional productions, a lot of shows created in Aurora, Cerne, Luban and Rensk are shown here. As a result, TVN Three is one of the most popular channels in the Research Colony and the TVN Three offices are even located in Cerne.

TVN Four

TVN Four is the main education channel for TVN. It airs a variety of documentaries on topics ranging from the civil war to the natural environment of Mystria, with shows designed for a mixture of age ranges.

TVN Five

TVN Five is a relatively new channel created in 2005. It has a variety of short shows and features content creators from MalTube in an attempt to increase youth audience figures.

TVN Youth

TVN Youth is a channel that serves as a platform for children's entertaining shows. TVN has been criticised in the past for putting forward shows that don't contain enough educational messaging, however, TVN Youth remains a highly popular show.

TVN Sport

TVN Sport is a platform for broadcasting a mixture of sports that are popular across Malgrave such as chess, climbing and football. It also broadcasts a selection of sports from outside Malgrave, with tankery being a popular addition.

TVN News

TVN News is a 24/7 news service which operates like MBC News. Due to its ownership, it is also known to present a viewpoint that is highly favourable to the trade union movement, and also has a special show dedicated to the workings of Regional Social Solidarity Councils.

TVN Plus

In response to the launch of MBC Play TVN launched TVN Plus in 2004, a streaming service designed to play shows on MalTec devices. Despite the competition between the networks in 2008, TVN launched a collaborative project to catalogue and archive historical productions and now earlier broadcasts can be watched freely.

It has resulted in a noticeable increase in the popularity of shows that were broadcast in the 80s and 90s and has been linked to the recent citypop craze.

Revenue

TVN is funded through advertising revenue and product placement arrangements. In 2010 TVN entered into a partnership with MBC and joined MBC International in an effort to organise the promotion of Malgravean products overseas and it receives a portion of revenue from this arrangement.
