Music Showcase is a long-running music show that has been shown on TVN since 1990. It is designed to showcase upcoming acts and provide a platform for popular acts to air new material. Music Showcase forms one of the main arms of efforts to promote Malgravean culture overseas, with the others being Weekly Music Countdown and Music Idol Camp.

History

In the 1980s a heightened period of cultural expression had led to the establishment of musical entertainment shows such as Weekly Music Countdown, however, at the time TVN had no major competition with experiments such as Music Chart failing after a couple of seasons and other ventures failing to leave the drawing board.

At the start of the new decade, another attempt was made and Music Showcase was launched. Initially, the show was not very popular and it was due to be cancelled in 1992, however, a last grasp to save the show was made with the decision to have Sakura Saito as host with the working as intended.

In 1996 Sakura Saito left the show, however, the work she had done in cementing the popularity of the show resulted in the show being considered essential viewing. Music Showcase has gained a reputation for promoting new talent and varied musical selections such as rock and even heavy metal. It has also continued to have a variety of popular hosts, with artists like Amelia Ricci, Park Min-Ji, Yukika Saito and Moon Hye-Jin having hosted the show in recent years.

Global Music Showcase

Starting in 2010 Music Showcase has hosted bi-annual music tours outside of Malgrave. Such experiences are called Global Music Showcases and are typically held at the start and end of each year, with established and rising talents showcasing a variety of music.

In addition to showing Malgravean efforts, Global Music Showcase also coordinates with local musicians to act as supporting acts during these performances.
