Travellers is a Malgravean science fiction television show. It follows the adventures of a deeply classified unit within the Malgravean intelligence service that is tasked with journeying back in time to correct mistakes in the timeline and ensure the steady flow of history.

It is noted as the first major television role for Janina Pasternack following on from her success in Unity?. Alongside first roles for Choi Iseul and Moon Hye-Jin

History

Travellers was commissioned by the Malgravean Broadcasting Corporation following a short survey in 2019 which indicated a desire for more sci-fi shows to be aired on the network, with Solar Solipsis submitting the winning pitch. Initial production was scheduled for 2020 with filming being done in Luban, however, security issues in the region caused all productions to be terminated and the project was halted for several months while alternate venues were held.

A solution was eventually found when the New Dornalian Broadcasting Corporation offered to assist MBC in the production of several shows that were set to be cancelled due to security reasons, with social media campaigns run alongside the shows airing to try and raise money for various relief efforts. Such an offer was accepted by the MBC and the production of Travellers was shifted to Daegu, a city located on Dornalian Earth.

Travellers is known for having a few cameo appearances and actors performing as younger versions of historical figures, with the most notable being Nadzieja Brzezicki who appeared briefly as herself in the aftermath of an episode which had a Traveller team journeying to Pakosc during the Lost Decade which also included a younger version of played by a child actor.

Synopsis

Travellers is set in a fictional classified unit within the Internal Security Division which reports directly to the Director General. Travellers are dispatched to fix noted divergences in the standard timeline which can be caused by random happenstance or external influence, and an important part of the Travellers' work is ensuring that even terrible moments of history such as Operation Swift go ahead as written.

Travellers follows the adventures of a newly established team as they encounter the difficulties associated with journeying to varying parts of Malgravean history and come to terms with both present social issues and their own selves.

Cast/Characters

Character Description
Janina Pasternack as Nam Ji-hyun Nam Ji-hyun is a new member of the Traveller department and resides in the present. Prior to her selection as a traveller, she served as a combat medic for the Royal Marines, however, after a nasty incident involving disruptive time travellers she was selected to work for the travellers and given a medical discharge. Ji-hyun occasionally struggles to fix history as intended when it involves the death of people such as in the build-up to the civil war or great exodus but ultimately performs her duty and her medical skills often come in handy.
Moon Hye-Jin as Kim Eun-young Kim Eun-young is a new member of the Traveller department recruited from the 1930s prior to the Great Exodus. Eun-young also served in the Royal Marines albeit in a more combat-focused role and took part in several key battles against Imerians which delayed their initial invasion and uses her combat prowess to assist the team in their missions. Unfortunately, due to an incident involving her recruitment, she is unable to return to her home time. Eun-young often struggles to get used to technological innovations and new concepts like not attacking Imerians on sight.
Choi Iseul as Marisa Piovene Marisa Piovene is an aspiring academic from Epping in the 1950s who is recruited to become a Traveller due to her extensive knowledge on several subjects but primarily history. Marisa initially simply guides her fellow Travellers to success, however, she occasionally takes more of a leadership role to ensure that everyone keeps on mission due to the importance of maintaining the timeline. In spite of her knowledge Marisa isn't acutely wise in social cues and can often come unstuck in these situations or fall victim to those with bad intentions, and during the first season she forms a close friendship with Eun-young who is more knowledgeable in these areas and seeks to protect her from harm.
Girolamo Passerini as Abramo Amato Abramo Amato is a senior member of the Traveller department in charge of operations and works to keep everyone on mission, due to the secretive nature of his past a lot of rumours fluctuate about his past including tales that he worked for past Imerians and Kouralians. Abramo Amato is outwardly stern in his demeanour, however, in private he can often be seen joking around with his immediate colleagues and cares quite a bit for those under him.
Roman Dubicki as Siemowit Zieliński Siemowit Zieliński is often seen handling the logistical side of operations and ensuring that team members receive period equipment and clothing. It is revealed that Siemowit comes from the National Workers' Republic during the civil war and often finds respite in his work due to Ancestorism being suppressed in the NWR
