Edward Marlin (21 March 1741 - 13 April 1817; aged 76) was a Hallandic statesman and military leader, who served as the first president of the Hallandic Republic and lead the country in the Hallandic War of Independence. He was responsible for summoning the Revolutionary Congress following the TBD, which began a continent-spanning conflict which inspired the emancipation efforts of several nations throughout Asteria. Marlin is renowned as one of the greatest generals of his time, and is the patron of the Hallandic Army, as well as a key figure in the formation of the early Hallandic state and its ideals. Marlin, also known by the nickname of "Eddie", is regarded as Halland's key unifier figure in the independence era.

Marlin was born in Nouvelle Sartoux, also known as New Warminster, from a middle class family struggling to recover from the economic tribulations caused by the Act of Reclamation, an edict made by the Gaullican administration of the colony which significantly altered land ownership laws and seized properties of local colonists with meager indemnization. Marlin's parents, as many other estmerish-asterians in the region, were displaced from their rural property due to recently found gold deposits in the vicinity, which was directly extracted and controlled by Gaullican colonial administrators. Marlin, despite his ill-sentiment towards Gaullican administration, entered the Colonial territorial army and received formal officer training under the Nouvelle Kasavie territorial regiment. Marlin was pivotal in the mobilization of local militias and organization of a cohesive movement in 1964 following the TBD, when he called the Revolutionary Congress.

Marlin would organize and lead the revolting territorial armies and raised militias against Gaullican forces and loyalists in the Hallandic War of Independence, acting as commanding general of the United Armies. The Ealaghleann Campaign of 1766, lead by Marlin, was pivotal in aiding the Ghailish independence movements against Gaullican loyalists who were blockading the city, ultimately leading to the union of the Fáel Dominion and the emancipated colonies of New Estmere into the newly founded Hallandic Republic, with Marlin as the first President. Marlin was a staunch liberal, and greatly influenced the First Hallandic Constitution in its participation as constituent. His second election and first directly elected term saw a landslide victory, with his popularity being near universal. However, he refused a third term, instead returning to his military career.

Marlin was an abolitionist, with his ideology and influence being one of the main factors for the abolition of slavery in the nation's first constitution. His legacy established the early republic under a federal, decentralized administration, structured around liberal ideals of equality among men. He continued to be a key figure in Hallandic politics after its term, being President of the Constitutionalist Party and serving a term as Representative for the state of New Warminster. His foreign stance sponsored an active role of the republic in the emancipation of all the Asterias from Euclean rule, which ultimately lead to the Beaver Wars soon after independence.
