The line of succession to the Rwizikuran throne is regulated by the reigning monarch of Rwizikuru, per the current Rwizikuran constitution, in conjunction with the House of Ngonidzashe Act of 1965.

Eligibility

According to the Basic Law of Rwizikuru, which established the Rwizikuran monarchy in 1964, the line of succession was defined as consisting of "all male descendants of the brother the father of the nation, excluding those disqualified, shall be eligible to inherit the throne of Rwizikuru." This meant that the line of succession in Rwizikuru is based off of agnatic primogeniture.

Under the 2020 constitution, section 1b of the first article of the first chapter states that "the Mambo of Rwizikuru can only issue decrees which concerns the House of Ngonidzashe and the line of succession to the Rwizikuran throne: he may not issue any decrees for any other affair," which allows the Mambo to theoretically alter the line of succession should he wish to alter the House of Ngonidzashe Act of 1965.

Notes

  1. He and his descendants were stripped of their positions of the line of succession in 2013, due to him being an illegitimate child of Munashe Ngonidzashe and Ophelia Barnes, and his "attraction of unwanted attention" to the "decadence" of the Rwizi royal family.
  2. He and his descendants were stripped of their status by Kupakwashe Ngonidzashe in 2006 following accusations by the King that his children were offspring of an adulterous relationship, although Mweya Ngonidzashe argues the removal of their royal status was due to Mweya's support of a constitutional monarchy in Rwizikuru.
  3. Fred and his descendants were stripped of their status by Kupakwashe Ngonidzashe in 1981 following a coup attempt against Kupakwashe: Chenjerai and his descendants were subsequently reinstated in 2002, though Muchazvireva and his descendants have not been reinstated, as they continue to operate the Rwizikuran government-in-exile in Spálgleann, Caldia.
