The Elsians (Elsian: Elsëbi; Tyrnican: Elsischen; Dlin: Ելսսկիյե, Elsskiye; Senian: Эльсци, Eĺscy) is an Ludic ethnic group native to the Els river valley of Tyrnica, Pelemia, Senia, and the city-state of Elstock, where they make up a narrow majority of the population. Elsians have historically spoke and continue to speak the Elsian language, a Ludic language closely related to Senian, as well as surrounding languages. In historical texts, the Elsians are sometimes referred to as Northern Senians (Tyrnican: Nordsenischen; Dlin: Սեվերնյե Սենիծյ, Severnye Senitsy) and considered a sub-group of the Senians, but since the 20th century have been recognized as their own separate ethnicity.
The traditional homeland of the Elsians is Elsia (Elsian: Elskô) a region that traditionally has encompassed the valley formed from the river Els, but the borders of Elsia are ill-defined and heavily debated. As of 2020, there are roughly 650,000 Elsians in the world, with the majority living within this border region between four countries, with immigrant communities in other countries since the 18th and 19th centuries. Historians estimate there may be as many as three million Elsians in the world through unofficial censuses, but concrete numbers are difficult to report.
