The Battle of Lauzerte, also known as the Reclamation of Shoassau, occured on 16-17 June 1954 as part of the Shoassau campaign of the World War. The Allies' primary goal was to capture the two bridges over the Bluestone at Lauzerte – the road route over the Lauzerte Bridge and Masen railway bridge - and establish a network into Drambenburgian-occupied Blaoria. Units of the Zamastanian 25th airborne division began the assault on the town on June 16th from the east, while the 42nd airborne dropped into the north of the city with Ruskaynian armored support. East Chanchajillan forces supplemented the allies as fighting wore into the second day. Throughout the course of the battle, Shoassauan resistance fighters joined allies in sporadic strikes on Drambenburgian forces, who at the time of the battle had already been in a strategic withdrawal across the Bluestone. By the end of the 16th, the town itself had been captured but the bridges remained in Drambenburgian control. On the 17th, a joint Zamastanian-Ruskaynian assault on the bridge occurred under heavy Drambenburgian artillery fire from the opposite side of the river. Zamastanian Air Force fighters pummeled the artillery pieces and forced Drambenburgians to retreat more hastily than anticipated, and the bridge was claimed.
Aside from military deaths in the battle, fighting at Lauzerte cost hundreds of civilian lives, and caused significant damage to many buildings in the city. The allied victory resulted in the last Drambenburgian forces being pushed from Shoassau, and is marked in Shoassau as Reclamation Day.
