West Phoenicia Parliament in the capital of Melbourne-Haven.

Since 1586 when West Phoenicia became a nation they have continued to have a parliament. The first unicarmel parliament sitting was held on the 1st of March 1586, and had the representation of two senators from each of the 10 original states that unified to form West Phoenicia under the leadership of the Monarch.

From 1586, parliament has grown and splintered into a bicarmel parliament with representation from all 53 city-state.

West Phoenicia is a liberal democratic, federal constitutional monarchy, headed by a sovereign Monarch.

The Monarch retains significant executive powers, however the monarch is bound by the West Phoenician Constitution, but they have a significant amount of control in the running of the government if they desire it, but pass the responsibilities onto the Prime Minister.

The royal family is more than a ceremonial Head of State.

The bicameral parliament is the legislative branch of the national central government of The Empire of West Phoenicia.

Parliament is made up of democratically-elected representatives from West Phoenicia. That are elected from the 13 political parties, currently registered.

The Senate and the House of Representatives make up the national government.

The members of the House represent electoral divisions or districts across the Empire. The House of Representatives follows a Multiple non-transferable vote also known as plurality-at-large. It is a non-proportional voting system that elects three representatives from each province within each of the 53 city-states. West Phoenicia currently has 530 provinces. They serve for a period of 3 years.

There number in total is 1590.

West Phoenician senators are elected under the single transferable vote system of proportional representation. Two Senators are elected from each of the 53 city-state of West Phoenicia. Senators serve for a period of 6 years.

There number in total is 106.

The royal family has the power to veto any Minister or Judge for the West Phoenician court system, if they feel is not suitable for the country. However the royal family tends to let the elected government handle most of those nominations.

The Monarch has the power to fire the Prime Minister in cases of no confidence, treason, corruption, other criminal charges and call on the elected government to vote in a new Prime Minister in.

The Coalition has been in power since 2010 when they defeated The West Phoenician Empire First Party.

In February 2019, The Conservative Party of West Phoenicia and The Antebellum Party merged to create a more powerful voting bloc. The merger  allowed both parties to focus more on their opposition than each other when attempting to woo candidates.

At the 2019 West Phoenician General Election; the Coalition won their second term with an increased majority..

Jimmy Bain, former leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister of West Phoenicia since 2015 chose to step down and not run for reelection in the 2019 election.

The Coalition won 845 seats out of the 1590 on offer, giving them the ability to run government without the support of the Crossbench. However if needed they can usually rely on votes from their right wing allies, Nationalist Party of West Phoenicia and the West Phoenicia Prohibition Party giving the Coalition a supermajority.
